China censors prostitution reference in 'Skyfall'

Sydney, Jan 22 (IANS) Movie censors in China have cut a key scene in the hit James Bond film "Skyfall" and altered the subtitles to remove references to torture and prostitution in the country, a media report said Tuesday.

The latest 007 blockbuster released worldwide late last year but audiences in China had to wait almost three months longer than Bond fans elsewhere, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

"Skyfall", starring Daniel Craig as the superspy, hit cinemas in China Monday but prior to that it went under the censor's knife in an apparent bid to remove references to the Chinese regime and culture.

The daily said a scene of an execution in Shanghai was erased.

References to torture by Chinese secret agents and the booming prostitution industry in Macau were left in the script but altered in the subtitles.
