London, June 6 (ANI): Newly reappointed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made a whopping 35 million-pound move for Brazil forward Hulk, having lost out to Monaco on their No.1 target Radamel Falcao.
Chelsea have turned to Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk as a potential summer signing, because they are now facing major competition for Napoli hitman Edinson Cavani, the Mirror reports.
According to the report, although Hulk, whose real name is Givanildo Vieira de Souza, had fallen out Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti and faced dressing room tensions over his sky-high wages, however, Mourinho is still a big admirer of the versatile Brazilian, who can play on the left of the attack or through the middle.
Ironically, the report added, Chelsea was very close to buying Hulk last summer but could not agree a deal with his then-club FC Porto, who were demanding 40 million pounds, after which Hulk joined the mega-rich Russian owned Zenit, who is believed to have paid in excess of 50 million pounds for his services.
Chelsea are desperate to strengthen their strike-force as Fernando Torres could be on his way out, Demba Ba has injury issues and Romelu Lukaku is being linked with another loan spell to gain more experience.
Although Mourinho wants to keep Chelsea captain John Terry, who has only a year left on his contract, but the Terry wants assurances over his place in the Special One's rebuilding plans, the report added. (ANI)
