London, Aug 25 (ANI): Chelsea will reportedly make a 40 million-pound bid for the unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney after Monday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
According to the Mirror, having hijacked Tottenham Hotspur's attempt to sign Willian, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that Rooney would be the final piece to complete the transfer puzzle, although Arsenal is also considering a bid to snatch him.
According to Mourinho, they have nothing to lose even if United rejects the offer like they did with the previous two, although he added that if they get Rooney, he will be the final piece in the puzzle, which will already get a maximum of two players in this transfer window.
But Mourinho also said that they would respect United by not mentioning about any development until after the game on Monday.
According to the report, Chelsea's dramatic capture of attacking midfielder Willian has raised doubts over the future of Juan Mata, who may yet be demanded by United in exchange of Rooney.
If Chelsea's move for Rooney fails, then Mourinho may turn his attention to Samuel Eto'o, Porto's Jackson Martinez or Arsenal target Karim Benzema, the report added. (ANI)
