Chef Speak with Vicky Ratnani

You'd probably recognise the name from the show Vicky Goes Veg on NDTV Goodtimes. Vicky Ratnani, chef, traveller and TV host has made a name for himself as a charismatic, lovable, chatty and witty cookery show host as well as Head Chef of Aurus, one of Mumbai's premier restaurants.

Recently, we caught up with him during a fun cook-off at Godrej Nature's Basket, where he faced-off with Ajay Chopra from Masterchef 2012 fame and Mayank Tiwari from Olives, to ask him about his journey in the food business.

What do you love most about food/cooking?


Food and cooking  is a living thing which can make a soul happy and content.

Standing in the kitchen every Sunday afternoon waiting for mums biryani.

Can you name a recipe that inspired you to take up a career in the food industry?∙


I was very proud of my first ever lasagne bolognese which I made in college  from scratch, right from the pasta to the sauce. This gave me a good feeling about a chef.

When did you know food was your calling?

Same as above.

Your favourite childhood recipe/dish?

Mutton biryani, sindhi mutton, aloo tukk.

Your favourite cuisine and restaurant?

Love a lot of cuisines…but I love Gajalee.

If not a chef, then what would you be?

Travel and food photographer.
