Changes sought in draft plan

Feedback Infrastructure Services Pvt. Ltd' the agency tasked with preparing the new master plan for the state capital ' on Wednesday presented its second draft to urban development department officials, who sought further modifications to the plan.

"This time, the agency has done a better job compared to the first draft. However, we want urban transport, new markets, parks, possible developments near Ring Road et al to be included in it," said town planner Gajanan Ram.

The draft master plan indicates possible roads, streets, drinking water supply lines, parks, hospitals, open space and the like, on the basis of which the civic body either approves or rejects a building map prepared by a contractor before construction begins.

The master plan for Ranchi was last prepared in the 1980s, when the city was not much bigger than a large village.

After Jharkhand came into being in 2000 and Ranchi was made state capital, the city grew rapidly, making a new master plan necessary.

In addition to the outer ring road, the draft plan has proposed an inner ring road to ease traffic in the core areas of the city.

Community centres too have been mooted along the lines of those found in metro cities. The new draft master plan takes into consideration the possible growth of the city till 2037.

The first draft was presented in September last year. Ranchi Municipal Corporation, the district administration and the urban development department, however, had not been satisfied with it and sought modifications.

"The agency has been asked to further modify the draft plan with inclusion of urban transport and traffic on the outer area as well as possible growth in ring road area. We would again call a meeting with the stakeholder in a month to finalise the draft master plan," Ram said.
