London, Nov 6 (ANI): England batsman Joe Root has reportedly been dropped down to number five in his team's batting order for the tour match against Australia A in Hobart.
Root has been moved down the order to give Hampshire player Michael Carberry to partner captain Alastair Cook as an opener for the first time as a reward for his impressive 78 in the tour opener in Perth last week.
According to Metro.co.uk, Root has struggled for form since scoring 180 against Australia at Lord's last July, and those doubts were raised by his lacklustre innings of 36 against a Western Australian XI at the WACA last week.
The report mentioned that if Carberry manages to cement his place alongside Cook, Root would have to battle uncapped Gary Ballance for the vacant No.6 batting spot for the first Test in Brisbane. (ANI)
