Guwahati, Jan. 18: Three state government employees, including two treasury officials, have come under the scanner of vigilance and anti-corruption sleuths for allegedly demanding bribe from a schoolteacher of Golaghat district to clear his pending arrears.
An official source said the sleuths of the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam police have recently registered a case against the three accused and are investigating the matter.
He said Md Mustak Ali, in his complaint lodged a few months ago with the bureau, stated that he was being harassed by the accused demanding a bribe for depositing his arrears dearness allowance (DA) in his general provident fund (GPF) account.
The three accused are ' Sanjib Kalita, treasury officer of Golaghat at that time, Prasanta Khound, the then bill clerk of Dergaon sub-treasury and former block elementary education officer Khireswar Saikia. Of the three accused, Saikia has retired from service.
According to the source, Ali is a science teacher at Janata Middle English School.
The source said even after the education department cleared payment of Rs 24,455 to Ali against an outstanding DA arrears of Rs 33,455 in March 2010, they kept him waiting on the plea of not having enough budgetary allocation after he refused to pay the bribe.
Left with no other option, Ali finally decided to lodge a complaint against the three.
