Boy murder protest

Siliguri, Jan. 10: Around 150 people, among them Dipankar Saha's family and neighbours, assembled at the court premises this morning, demanding capital punishment for the duo arrested in connection with the schoolboy's murder.

The assemblage prompted the police to depute a 30-strong force to prevent any untoward incident at the court.

Earlier today, the crowd went to the office of the police commissioner and staged a demonstration. After voicing their protests for around 30 minutes, they headed for the court premises.

Akhil Biswas, the lawyer representing the boys, presented their birth certificates before Madhumita Basu, the additional chief judicial magistrate.

"Both are below 18 years of age, as per their birth certificates and other proof…. During our submission, we mentioned that the case should come under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000," Biswas said.
