Botham says would be first one to buy Anderson drink on breaking his Eng Test record

London, Feb 19 (ANI): England legend Ian Botham has said he would be the first one to congratulate James Anderson if he breaks his record of most wickets by an English bowler in Test cricket.

"Jimmy Anderson has been England's leader of the pack ever since coaches stopped trying to change his action and just let him bowl," Botham writes in his column for the Daily Mirror.

"And now he has become England's leading wicket-taker in all forms of international cricket, he has one more mountain left to climb - and I hope he makes it to the top," he added.

"I want Anderson to break my record of 383 Test wickets for England. I've held it for more than 20 years, so I've had a good run. But records are there to be broken, and if Jimmy - who has 288 Test wickets to date - can find another 100 in his locker, I will be the first to buy him a drink," he further wrote.

Botham added: "I was happy to buy him a beer on Sunday night in Hamilton, when he took the 529th wicket of his England career in Tests, one-day internationals and Twenty20 matches combined."

"England have been blessed with some terrific quick bowlers in the last decade, from Michael Vaughan's 'Fab Four' attack to the group who hunted down the Aussies in their own back yard in 2010-11," he wrote.

"But Anderson has been the cream of the crop - and I trust he will finish his career with the figures to prove it," he concluded. (ANI)
