Sydney, Nov. 9 (ANI): Former South African skipper Johan Botha has said that Australia would end up like 'losers' if they can't back up the trash talk in their secret Proteas files.
Botha made his comments after its was leaked that Australia is threatening a verbal and bouncer barrage against the South African trio of Jacques Kallis, Hashim Alma and JP Duminy as part of a wider 'psychological battle' in the first Test today at the Gabba.
"It is just playing mind games, which is fair enough. You just want to get a bit of an edge before the series starts. If you talk it up and don't deliver you look like the loser in the situation," News.com.au quoted Botha, as saying.
According to the paper, Botha said South Africa's unconquered run over nine Test series since losing to Australia in February 2009 proved a mental resilience that contrasted starkly with the blow-outs in the limited-overs World Cups.
"If you look at South Africa in head to head series they are really hard to beat," said Botha, who led the Proteas to victory in the 2009 Commonwealth Bank series against Australia.
He also warned that Australia's pace battery, led by Victorians James Pattinson and Peter Siddle, would pitch short at their peril, the paper said.
"I think a lot of teams have tried and they can just duck it all day. It is all talk. England has done the same to Duminy, he is not a sitting duck," he said. (ANI)
