Ahmedabad, Nov.7 (ANI): A local court here on Thursday sent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dinu Bogha Solanki to police custody till November 11, in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa.
"CBI asked for Dinu Solanki's remand for 14 days. CBI supported their application by saying that there is sufficient material against him. They said they wanted to inquire about the sim cards used by him. On behalf of Solanki, it was contended that he has been sufficiently interrogated, previously on three occasions. Therefore, when no material has been seized from him, it appears that intentions of CBI are not bonafide," Solanki's lawyer Mitesh Amin told media here today.
"As they could not recover any material, as there is no such material, on these grounds we opposed it. Ultimately, court partly allowed the petition of CBI, and Dinu Solanki is sent to police custody interrogation up to November 11," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Delhi court granted two-day transit remand to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for taking Dinu Bogha Solanki to Ahmedabad.
The CBI had arrested BJP MP from Junagarh, Dinu Bogha Solanki, in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa.
Earlier, Solanki was questioned by a special team of the CBI here, and later he was booked by the agency. He was earlier given a clean chit by the Gujarat Police.
The CBI had registered a case on the directions of the Gujarat High Court, which in its order had criticized the state police for their shoddy investigations in the murder case.
Amit Jethwa, an RTI and environment activist, was shot dead outside the Gujarat High Court in July 2010.
Meanwhile, Amit Jethwa's wife Alpa said: "I am happy that my husband's murderer has been arrested by CBI. I hope he gets death penalty." (ANI)
