BJD protests against shifting of eastern zonal railway headquarters from Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Sept 12 (ANI): The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday staged a protest against Union Tribal Affairs Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo's suggestion to the Antony Committee for shifting the East Coast railway headquarters from Bhubaneswar to Vishakhapatnam.

It has alleged that this proposal is a conspiracy of the Congress-led UPA Government.

BJD began its three-day protests from Thursday by staging demonstrations outside railway stations across the state, carrying banners and shouting slogans against the Central Government.

"East coast railways, is in our heart so it should be continued here. We object his (Kishore Chandra Deo) representation what he has given before Antony," BJD leader Bhagirathi Badajena said.

Deo had proposed to shift the base of ECoR to Vizag (Visakhapatnam) in a submission before Antony Committee, headed by Defence Minister A.K Antony, which is looking into the impact of separation of Telangana Andhra Pradesh and the possible mitigation measures to counter any untoward situation.

Another BJD leader Ashok Panda echoing similar sentiments said that the decision was not in the interest of the people of Odisha.

"We will not allow any kind of conspiracy of this sort. Sifting of east coast railway zone to Vizag goes against the interest of people of Odisha," he said.

Deo, however, said that he had suggested that South East Railway headquarters be shifted to Bhubaneswar first and then the East Coast Railways headquarters be moved to Vishakhapatnam with Vijaywada division under its control. (ANI)
