Guwahati, Dec. 26: India No. 1 and former junior Australian Open champion Yuki Bhambri lifted the men's singles title in the 32nd Petroleum Sports Promotion Board inter-unit tennis tournament that concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association complex here today.
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd player defeated India No. 3 Vishnu Vardhan, also of ONGC, 6-4, 6-4 in an entertaining final match today.
In the men's doubles, Chnadra Sekhar Mohanty and Anshuman Dutta tandem of Oil India Ltd (OIL) went down to Divij Sharan and Sunil Sipaeya of Indian Oil Corproation (IOC). The latter won the final match 6-0, 6-2.
Tejbir Singh Bhandari of IOC outplayed Bhushan Akut of Bharat Petroleum Corproation Ltd (BPCL) 6-0, 6-1 in a one-sided final to lift the veteran men's singles crown.
The five-day tournament of oil and gas sector companies saw participation by teams from ONGC, IOC, Gas Authority of India Ltd, BPCL, OIL and NRL. Star players like Bhambri, Rohan Bopanna, Vardhan and Sharan represented various companies in the meet.
U-16 cricket: An unchanged Assam squad will take on hosts Bengal in their last East Zone match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) match at Jadavpur University ground from Thursday. The Assam Cricket Association has, however, named Anshuman Saikia as the skipper in place of Abhishek Thakuri.
