Azad alleges bogus members made by DDCA officials

He claimed that even former India captain Kapil Dev is not a member.

New Delhi: Continuing his crusade against the alleged mismanagement at the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), former Test player Kirti Azad on Tuesday claimed that several ‘non-resident’ members are registered at the addresses of some of the top association officials.

Azad distributed lists of some of the names whose addresses are same as that of a few office bearers. He claimed that many of them are bogus members who have been fraudulently registered. He claimed that even former India captain Kapil Dev is not a member.

“I would request the investigating team to get the phone numbers of all the DDCA members and call them randomly to check their authenticity. My stand would be vindicated,” Azad said outside the Ferozeshah Kotla, where a team of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) checked the DDCA records for the second consecutive day. The investigating team landed at the Kotla at 10 am and left the premises after about nine hours, at around 7 pm, said a source.

Probe into accounts of DDCA starts

After speaking to the media, Azad went inside the Kotla to hand over to the SFIO team the same lists of names that he distributed to the media.

Sources said that Azad was allowed to enter the stadium but not inside the room where the five-member team that was checking the records.

“He was not allowed to enter the room on the ground floor in the new building where the SFIO team was checking the books,” he said.

According to Azad, there are nine members listed at DDCA president Arun Jaitley’s south Delhi address, including the senior politician himself and his wife, five — all immediate family members — at general secretary SP Bansal’s address, and 18 at the address of treasurer Narinder Batra.

Batra rubbished Azad’s claims, saying that some of the names that he has shown in the list are bogus. DDCA has alleged that Azad has tampered with the CD, containing members’ names, provided to him.

When the names were read out to Batra, he said he does not know seven of the 18 people that figure in Azad’s list.

“I have no idea about four of the names that you have read out. Four of my family members live in Jammu, and since they don’t have a Delhi address, they asked me to give my address. They all are members for at least 10 years,” Batra told MAIL TODAY. “The others are my family members — my wife, my father, elder and younger brothers, nephews, nieces, and sisters-in-law. And all of them have been made DDCA members with due consent of Mr Kirti Azad as members are made with the approval of the general body, and Mr Azad attends all meetings.”

Meanwhile, Jaitley met some of the DDCA office bearers in the evening, possibly to discuss the SFIO’s investigation.
