London, June 13 (ANI): Britons spend 11,000 pounds to find their true love and along the way they go on 13 first dates and 11 romantic dinners, a study has revealed.
The research suggested that despite shelling out more than 100 pounds on a typical first date, seven of these occasions end in "disaster," the Daily Express reported.
The poll of 2,000 people found that the first year of a relationship is an expensive affair, costing the average love-struck adult 3,629 pounds.
But this drops by about 1,000 pounds during the second year as couples settle down and spend less on romance, averaging about 131 pounds per date.
From the time of their engagement until the big day, couples spend an average of 120 pounds on each date.
Many of the respondents said that they made a point of cutting back on the cost of going out after their engagement in order to save for their wedding.
It was found that from those tentative first dates to walking up the aisle, it all adds up to a whopping 10,754.73 pounds.
Andy Oldham, managing director of the UK's biggest cashback site Quidco.com, which commissioned the study, said that it seems the dating game is a costly one.
He said that when you add up the amount you spend before you finally marry 'the one', the cost could be staggering.
Oldham added that splitting the cost of courtship is becoming more common. (ANI)
