Assamese singers launch album with focus on social issues in Guwahati

Guwahati, Feb 5 (ANI): Musician duo Rikib and Razzak from Guwahati recently launched their debut album "Barakha" to raise awareness of social issues like violence, gender inequality and molestation.

Rikib, a folklore research scholar at Guwahati University, has been working with his brother Razzak to promote Assamese folk music globally.

"Through this album, we want to promote our folk music at the international level. We want people to listen to original tracks of our music so that we can go forward," said Rikib.

Marketing and producing music is a tough task in the Northeast due to piracy. The brothers have themselves produced, directed, sung, composed and are even marketing their music CD @ Rs1. They plan to launch another album to promote the Bihu festival.

"The response is very good and people are buying and listening to our music. We are now working on a new album," said Razzak.

People in the Northeast love music. And for budding artists like Rikib and Razzak the future seems bright. (ANI)
