Calcutta: Assam would look to once again maintain their giant-killing ways in the shorter format of the game that saw them make it to the national round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season.
"We are a good team… Winning or losing is not in our hands, but I can promise that we'll give our best in every match," captain Abu Nechim said. Assam had done reasonably well in the Ranji Trophy this season, finishing fourth in Group C, with 21 points from eight matches.
The players are determined not to commit the same mistakes. "We've a young team. We have made good preparations coming into the tournament, and hopefully, won't disappoint," said Nechim. He feels the field is quite open and any team from among Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Assam can make it to the next round.
Tripura are aiming to cause an upset or two. Led by former India wicketkeeper-batsman Ajay Ratra, they have come into this tournament following a camp in Agartala and a 50-over local league tournament. "We've a good mixture of experience and youth… Last year too, we performed well and lost a few games narrowly. Hopefully…" said Ratra.
