Guwahati, Feb. 14: City Cricket Club rode a scintillating century by wicketkeeper-batsman Amjad Ali to post a 108-run win against Youth Club, Dispur while Maharana Athletic Club drubbed Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education by 160 runs in two matches of the Servo 20th Guwahati Challenge Trophy Cricket tournament, organised by River Rine Club, at Judges Field here today.
In the morning match, City elected to bat and piled up 251 for five in the 20 overs and Youth Club were restricted to 143 for nine. Ali entertained the crowd to remain unbeaten on 133. He faced 64 balls off which he slammed 20 fours and three sixes.
Rahul Hazarika contributed a quickfire 50 (4x9) and Iqbal Ansari chipped in with 16 (4x3). Shimanta Dutta and Abhijit Choudhury of Youth Club took two wickets each, conceding 42 and 44 runs respectively. Bikash Basfore also claimed one for 56. For Youth Club, Shimanta Dutta (32, 4x5), Nasir Hussain (14, 4x2) and Kunal Kashyap (13, 4x1) were the notable scorers.
Harmit Singh, Chandradeep Das and Bikash Terang of City took two wickets apiece, giving away 10, eight and 19 runs respectively.
In the other match, Maharana elected to bat and scored 214 for nine in the stipulated 20 overs. LNIPE were skittled out for 54 in 10.5 overs.
Sahnawaz Ahmed topscored for the winners with a hurricane knock of 72 facing 31 balls. He went for 11 boundaries and three over-boundaries. Kaushik Oja (38, 4x6, 6x1) and Abhijeet Rabha (33, 4x5, 6x1) were the other main scorers for the side.
Rajat Shukla Das of LNIPE scalped four wickets for 25 runs as teammates Beda Prakash Das and Jiban Barman notched up one each.
For LNIPE, Dwipen Gohain (17, 4x3) and Joginder Singh (13, 4x2) were the only batsmen to score in double figures. Amit Das and Binay Raut of Maharana accounted for four wickets each, giving away 15 and 17 runs respectively, while Ikramul Ali picked up one for nine.
In tomorrow's match, Genesis Club will meet Youth Club.
U-15 cricket: Guwahati entered the final of the Amarjit Sarma Trophy inter-district (under-15) cricket tournament, defeating Sivasagar by four wickets in the first semi-final at North Lakhimpur College ground today. Sivasagar elected to bat and were skittled out for 61 in 26.3 overs and Guwahati reached 62 for six in 15.3 overs.
