Johannesburg, Aug 22 (ANI): Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram has announced his marriage to his Australian girlfriend, saying that he has started his new life on a happy note.
According to Sport24, Akram married Shaniera Thompson, a former public relations consultant, in Lahore last week in a simple ceremony, after proposing to her last month.
The report further said that Thompson came to Karachi earlier this month before going to see Akram's ailing father in Lahore, where the marriage was solemnised.
According to Akram, Thompson had converted to Islam and is learning Urdu, adding that she is close to his sons from his previous marriage and they form a good bond.
The first wife of Akram, Huma, died in 2009 after multiple organ failure.
According to the report, Akram, who played 104 Tests and 356 one-day internationals for Pakistan in a career lasting from 1984 to 2003, was regarded as one of the best left-arm fast bowlers to have played the game and remains a major celebrity in Pakistan. (ANI)
