Akaash Vani Music Review

By Abid, Glamsham Editorial

The team that gave us the runaway hit, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, is back with AKAASH VANI. Enterprising producer Kumar Mangat, young and bold director Luv Ranjan who defied critics (and censor!) and surprised all with a gutsy film on the modern day youth and their heartbreaks, come back with a typical Bollywood ishtyle boy-meets-girl romance which has ample scope for melodious songs. The music department has once again been entrusted to Hitesh Sonik and lyrics are by the director himself. The two did quite a good job last time with PKP with some songs from the album making it to the charts. So let's see if the two hit it off this time as well! Soft soothing piano notes commence the first song, a quintessential love ballad titled 'Pad Gaye Ji', an awesome romantic composition first up. K.K and Sunidhi Chauhan render this love duet with utmost ease and dexterity. The USP of the track is the awesome build-up of the petal soft notes into an amazing electrifying rockish crescendo. Lyrics by Luv Ranjan are fresh, interesting and simple. Just the perfect start that one looks for in an all-out romantic film. A song that will surely climb the charts and will find itself in the line of favourites for this upcoming Valentine pick.Nostalgia galores as one is jolted back into the disco dancer days of Mithun Da with 'Crazy Lover' and Vishal Dadlani and Sunidhi Chauhan let their hair loose for humorous and at times satirical 'chhed-chaad' , naughty number. Despite some crazy singing by the lead singers, the song fails to leave a lasting impression as it sounds a bit immature and kiddish for liking. Maybe it will appeal to a certain section of the youth.Nikhil D'Souza comes in for 'Bas Main Aur Tu', a sort of continuation of the first track, 'Pad Gaye Ji' , although the first song was an all-out romantic track this one sounds more of a situational number where the lovers have eloped and are on their own. A song that come to mind is 'Akele Hain To Kya Gham Hai' (QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK) , although the song cannot be classified in the same league as the above despite some nice rendition by Nikhil and lovely words penned by Luv Ranjan. The "Reprise" version is good too but not much different from the original. An experimental romantic track, 'Rumani' is next up, and 'Pareshaan' fame Shalmali Kholdage and fresh talent Thomas Andrews are called in to do the honours. Thomas's rendition in over anglicized accent appears to be instructed by the composer and it may well be the demand of the situation. The lyrics which are more of simple Urdu add a touch of classThe album closes with a saving grace in the form of Shafqat Amanat Ali rendered 'Tera Mera Naam'. A sad, soulful 'sufi' inspired number that depicts the pain of separation/'judaai' through some apt words and soft musical arrangements that rely mostly on guitar, piano and keyboards, and of course Shafqat's immensely emotive vocals, are the highlight of the track. Definitely, a number that will find universal appeal. The audio of AKAASH VANI is a mixed bag, and coming from the makers of PKP one expected the bar to be raised a bit higher here. However, two of our favourites 'Pad Gaye Ji' and 'Tera Mera Naam' are just class apart and make the album worth a hear. Rating - 3/5
