Another official from the embattled Bureau of Customs (BoC) has resigned from his post.
Retired Brig. Gen. Danilo "Danny" Lim, Customs deputy commissioner for intelligence, confirmed tendering his resignation "immediately" after hearing the State of the Nation Address (SONA) Monday.
In a statement Wednesday, Lim agreed with the speech of President Benigno Aquino, who hit BoC and its officials failing to meet targets and for allegations of corruption.
"As a member of his official family, I am privy to the truths that ring in his speech and I am profoundly moved," Lim said.
"It is in this spirit that I tendered my resignation as Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence of the Bureau of Customs," he added.
Aquino on Monday said "irregular activity" of BoC employees have led to the loss of around P200 billion worth of revenue for the government in his fourth SONA.
"I agree with the President's SONA observation that the Bureau has not performed in accordance with the expectations of the people," Lim said.
"The apprehension of smugglers as well as the guaranteeing of correct collections are continuing activities that need as much attention as the job of instituting reforms," he added.
Achieving both goals need more time "than the public is willing to give," Lim said, adding that he sees "no other recourse but to leave his office."
He claimed this move has been his seventh attempt to be removed from his post, saying Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa told him to wait for vacancies since his appointment in 2011.
Malacanang has yet to respond to his resignation, however.
Lim, a retired military general who was detained for rebellion against the Arroyo administration from 2006 to 2010, claimed he led the Customs in small victories to reform BoC.
"Though small compared to the Herculean tasks of cleaning these Augean stables, they are no less lasting and significant achievements," he clarified.
On Monday, Customs commissioner Ruffy Biazon announced his resignation, which he clarified had been turned down by President Aquino himself.
