East Bengal registered a narrow 1-0 win over Indonesian champions Semen Padang in the first leg of their AFC Cup quarter-final in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Japanese play-maker Ryuji Sueoka came off the bench to score the winner in the 70th minute and East Bengal crucially kept a clean sheet. The teams will meet again next Tuesday, in Indonesia, for the second leg.
