The Kolkata Knight Riders are moving forward strongly in their pursuit of glory. With yet another win, they are one step closer to confirming their place in the top 4. Winning the toss and putting the Daredevils in to bat first, they restricted them to a score of 160.
In response, Gambhir and co. made a flying start to the game and won it with the utmost ease with 7 wickets and 22 balls in hand.
Here are 5 memorable moments from the match that don't fade away, quite like the Axe Signature range of body perfumes.
#1 Samson sensation
When he burst onto the scene with the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson was perhaps the hottest prospect in the country. Such was the hype around him that fans expected him to be a consistent representative of India on an international level.
While he might still only be 22, he has not yet reached the heights that were expected of him, but his performance in this game showed us the ability that he possesses. Giving his team a blazing start, he scored 60 runs off 38 balls before perishing to Umesh Yadav.
#2 Shreyas Iyer’s supporting role
While Sanju Samson provided the aggression for the Delhi Daredevils, Shreyas Iyer played a very nice role in supporting the former Rajasthan Royals starlet. Like Samson, Iyer himself is one of the brightest prospects in the Indian cricketing fraternity and his innings today was a testament to that.
In an innings that consisted of four boundaries and a six, Iyer fell just 3 short of a half-century as he ended his knock with 47 runs from just 34 balls.
#3 Coulter-Nile fury
The way Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer were going at one point, it felt like the Delhi Daredevils would cross the 200 run mark. Both these Indian youngsters were timing the ball well as they set up a perfect platform for the sloggers to propel the side to a humongous score.
However, Nathan Coulter-Nile had other plans. In his first spell, he gave away 19 runs in 2 overs, but he made a solid comeback at the crunch end of the innings, taking the wickets of the dangerous Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris.
In the end, he had the last laugh as he ended his spell of 4 overs by taking 3 wickets while conceding 34 runs.
#4 Uthappa keeps his promise
Before the start of this year’s Indian Premier League, Robin Uthappa promised that the fans of the Kolkata Knight Riders would witness firecrackers from his bat. And so far, he is keeping his promise in style.
The flamboyant KKR batsman once again played a superb knock to give his team the perfect start that they needed. Hitting four 6s and five boundaries, Uthappa ended his innings with 59 runs from 33 balls while…
#5 Gautham Gambhir played a captain’s innings
The experienced Indian opener might not be a regular fixture for the Indian cricket team, but he is still going strong for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Playing yet another brilliant innings, he perfectly complemented the vehement Robin Uthappa.
Not only did he start the innings for his team he also made sure that he ended the game unbeaten. In the end, with the aid of 11 boundaries, he scored 71 runs from 52 balls and steered the ship to the coast of the victory.
