Algiers, Jan 21 (IANS) A total of 37 foreign hostages of eight countries were killed during the four-day standoff with militants at the In Amenas gas complex, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said Monday.
The revised toll, up from 23 on Saturday, followed the discovery of more bodies at the site during a demining operation Sunday.
Sellal said seven of the hostages were yet to be identified, Saudi Press Agency reported.
While three of the 32 hostage-takers, who came from northern Mali, were arrested, 29 others were killed, the Algerian prime minister added.
On Wednesday, an armed group assaulted the gas field and seized a number of workers as hostages.
The day after, the Algerian Army launched an operation to rescue the hostages, which ended Saturday evening.
