19 named for U-16 meet

Nineteen U-16 cricketers from the state, starting Tuesday, will sweat it out at Jamshedpur's Keenan Stadium during the first preparatory camp for the Vijay Merchant Trophy.

The six-day camp, the first after the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) cancelled two earlier ones due to rains, will also act as a selection trial for the colts.

"We are hoping that the weather god does not play spoilsport again. The boys need to get into a groove," said JSCA assistant secretary Ashim Kumar Singh.

According to Singh, the 19 probables are the only ones who had managed to clear medical tests conducted by BCCI.

"We had sent the names of 54 boys to BCCI. Thirty-five could not get through the test. After the camp, 15 boys will be selected for the state squad for the Vijay Merchant Trophy," Singh said.

He added that from November 9 onwards the camp would switch over to College Ground to make space for Jharkhand's Ranji tie against Assam.

According to Singh, the 19 probables are the only ones who had managed to clear medical tests conducted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Of the boys named for the trails, Jamshedpur has the maximum presence with seven cricketers followed by state capital Ranchi, which ahs has five. Dhanbad and Lohardag have two cricketers each while Deoghar, Garhwa and Hazaribagh has one each.

The boys selected for the trials are Rahul Reyaz Khan, Ankit Singh Dixit, Pawan Kumar, Nihal Singh, Saurabh Singh, Vikash Kumar, Divyanshu Singh (all Jamshedpur), Tarak Choudhary, Mohit Raj, Ujjwal Kumar, Ishan Kishan, Nitin Choubey (all Ranchi), Shiv Prakash Choudhary, Shubham Prasad (Lohardaga), Ishtekhar Ahmed, Md. Zeeshan Ali (Dhanbad), Prashant Ranjan (Hazaribagh), Raqeeb Adnan (Deoghar) and Yuvraj Ravi Ratnam (Garhwa).

The state will state its campaign against Odisha from December 7 to 9 and play its two home matches against Bengal in Bokaro from December 12 to 14 and Tripura in Chaibasa from December 17 to 19.
