West Indies vs India: 2nd Test, Day 5

VVS Laxman scored 85 and 87 in this test providing the 121st occasion of an Indian batsman scoring twin fifties against various oppositions.

 

 

VVS Laxman's 85 and 87 in this test provide the ninth occasion of his scoring twin fifties in a test. R Dravid {10}, SM Gavaskar {09} and SR Tendulkar {09} are the other Indian batsmen who have scored twin fifties on nine or more occasions.

 

 

VVS Laxman's 87 in India's second innings represent his 51st half century. He became the eighth batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 or more fifties. Others are - AR Border {63}, R Dravid {60}, SR Tendulkar {59}, RT Ponting {56}, SC Chanderpaul {55}, JH Kallis {54} and SR Waugh {50}.

 

 

FH Edwards captured 5 for 76 in this test providing the 50th occasion of a West Indian bowler capturing five or more wickets in an innings against India.

FH Edward's 5 for 76 in this test represent his best innings bowling effort against India. His previous best was 4 for 56 at Kingston in Jun 2011, the first test of the ongoing test series.

R Dravid took his 202nd catch overall and his 22nd catch against West Indies when he caught LMP Simmons for 14 of the bowling of I Sharma in West Indies second innings. This was his 29th catch in the fourth innings of a test. Others to take more catches than R Dravid in the fourth innings of a test are - RT Ponting {32}, DPMD Jayawardene {31} and MA Taylor {30}.

 

 

SC Chanderpaul completed 1400 runs against India at home when he was on four during his knock of 12 in the second innings of this test. He became the second batsman to achieve the feat after Zaheer Abbas of Pakistan who has scored 1427 runs.

 

 

I Sharma captured ten wickets conceding 108 runs in this test providing the fifth occasion of an Indian bowler capturing eight or more wickets in a test against West Indies. The other five occasions are - 16 for 135 by N Hirwani at Chennai in Jan 1988, 11 for 235 by BS Chandrashekhar at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 1966, 10 for 135 by N Kapil Dev at Ahmedabad in Nov 1983, 10 for 223 by SP Gupte at Kanpur in Dec 1958 and 9 for 111 by EAS Prasanna at Chennai in Jan 1975.

 

 

His ten for 108 in this test represent the fourth occasion of an Indian right arm fast bawler capturing eight or more wickets in a test against West Indies - 10 for 135 by N Kapil Dev at Ahmedabad in Nov 1983, 8 for 118 by N Kapil Dev at Kingston in Feb 1983 and 8 for 121 by BKV Prasad at Bridgetown in Mar 1997.

 

 

I Sharma captured ten wickets for 108 in this test to become the second Indian bowler to capture eight or more wickets in a Bridgetown test after BKV Prasad who had figures of 8 for 121 in Mar 1997. Thus I Sharma's ten for 108 in this test represent the best bowling effort in a match by an Indian bowler at Bridgetown.

 

 

Harbhajan Singh captured his 50th wicket against West Indies when he had SC Chanderpaul leg before wicket for 12. He became the sixth Indian bowler to capture 50 plus wickets against West Indies. Others are - N Kapil Dev {89}, A Kumble {74}, S Venkataraghavan {68}, BS Chandrasekhar {65} and BS Bedi {62].

 

 

DM Bravo's 73 in this test provide the 285th occasion of a West Indian batsman scoring a fifty against India. His knock also represents the 189th occasion of a West Indian batsman scoring a half century against India.

 

 

DM Bravo's 73 in this test represent his fifth fifty of his test career. The other occasions are - 58 vs Sri Lanka at Galle in Nov 2010, 80 vs Sri Lanka at Col-RPS in Nov 2010, 68 vs Sri Lanka at at Pallekele in Dec 2010 and 50 vs Pakistan at Basseterre in May 2011.

 

 

DM Bravo and CS Baugh added 69 runs in this test providing the seventh occasion of a fifty plus runs partnership by West Indies batsmen against India in a Bridgetown test.
