Second Test: India vs Australia at Bangalore: Day 2 highlights

- SR Watson {56}, Ponting {77}, MJ North {128} and TD Paine {59} scored fifties in Australia's innings providing the 259th, 260th, 261st and 262nd occasion of an Australian batsman scoring fifties against India.

 

- RT Ponting's 77 in this Test provide the 49th occasion of an Australian captain scoring a fifty against India. It was RT Ponting's sixth fifty as captain against India. He now occupies the joint third spot amongst the Australian captains who have scored most fifties against India. He is on par with KJ Hughes who has scored six fifties. Only RB Simpson {10} and AR Border {07} have scored more fifies than RT Ponting and KJ Hughes.

 

- SR Watson's 56 in this Test represent the 79th occasion of an Australian batsman scoring a fifty against India. It was his 13th Test fifty and fourth fifty against India.

 

- At the end of the Australia's first innings, RT Ponting has scored most runs against India. He has an aggregate of 1939 runs. He went past ML Hayden's 1888 when he was on 27 duirng his knock of 77 in this innings.

 

- RT Ponting became the fifth batsman to total 1900 runs against India in Tests. Others are - CH Lloyd {2344}, Javed Miandad {2228}, IVA Richards {1927} and GS Sobers {1920|. RT Ponting occupies the third place amongst the most run getters against India. He went past the aggregate of West Indian greats VIV Richards {1927} and GS Sobers {1920} on his way to 1939.

 

- RT Ponting's aggregate of runs in the first innings of a Test match stood at 4964 at the end of Australia's first innings in this Test. RT Ponting's aggregate of 4964 is second to SR Tendulkar's aggregate of 5308 in the annals of Test cricket.

 

- MJ North registered his fifth century when he scored 128 in this Test. His five hundreds read thus - 125* vs England at Cardiff in Jul 2009, 117 vs South Africa at Jo'burg in Feb 2009, 112* vs New Zealand at Wellington in Mar 2010, 110 vs England at Leeds in Aug 2009, 128 vs India at Bangalore in Oct 2010.

 

- MJ North's 128 in this Test represent his highest Test score. His previous best was 125* vs England at Cardiff in Jul 2009.

 

- RT Ponting's 77 in this Test represent his 18th fifty in the first innings of a Test on away soil. AR Border {19}, SR Tendulkar {19} and SR Waugh {19} are the three batsmen who have scored more fifties in the first innings of a Test match than RT Ponting on away soil. RT Ponting went past R Dravid's 17 fifties on his way to his 18th fifty.

 

- RT Ponting's 77 in this Test represent his tenth half century in the first innings of a Test match on away soil. He became the sixth batsman to score ten or more half centuries in this category of statistics. Others are - AR Border {12}, R Dravid {11}, Javed Miandad {11}, ME Waugh {11} and SR Waugh {11}.

 

- MJ North's 128 in this Test provide the 57th occasion of a visiting batsman scoring a fifty at Bangalore. It also represents the 26th occasion of a visiting batsman scoring a century at Bangalore.

 

- MJ North's six of PP Ojha {third ball of 97th over} provides the 100th six scored in Tests at M Chinnswamy Stadium, Bangalore.  Team wise break up read thus - India {49}, Australia {17}, Pakistan {09}, West Indies {09}, Sri Lanka {06}, New Zealand {04}, South Africa {04} and England {02}.

 

- MJ North and TD Paine added 149 plus runs for the sixth wicket in this Test providing the 93rd occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership against India. This stand also provides the eighth occasion of sixth wicket three figure partnership by Australian batsmen against India.

 

- MJ North and TD Paine added 149 plus runs for the sixth wicket in this Test providing the second occasion of Australian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the sixth wicket against India at Bangalore. The first occasion was the 167 run partnership between MJ Clarke and AC Gilchrist in Oct 2004.

 

- SR Watson {56}, Ponting {77}, MJ North {128} and TD Paine {59} scored fifties in Australia's innings providing the 12th occasion of four or more Australian batsman scoring fifties against India. It is the second such feat by Australian batsman at Bangalore. In Oct 2004, J Langer {52}, SM Katich {81}, MJ Clarke {151} and AC Gilchrist {104} had scored fifties.

 

- TD Paine was dismissed stumped by MS Dhoni for 59 in this Test providing the sixth occasion of Australian wicket keeper stumped against India. The other five occasions are - HB Taber for 46 at Delhi in Nov 1969, IA Healy for 12 vs Delhi in Oct 1996, AC Gilchrist for 122 at Mumbai in Feb 2001, AC Gilchrist for 4 at Sydney in Jan 2004 and BJ Haddin for 17 at Delhi in Oct 2008.

 

- TD Paine became the second Australian wicket keeper to be dismissed stumped after scoring a fifty. He was dismissed stumped for 59 in this game. AC Gilchrist was the other wicket keeper batsman to be dismissed stumped for 122 at Mumbai in Feb 2001.

 

- TD Paine's stumped dismissal in this Test provides the 21st occasion of an Australian wicket keeper batsman dimissed stumped in a Test innings. It also provides the 105th occasion of a wicket keeper batsman dismissed stumped in a Test innings in the annals of Test cricket.

 

- TD Paine's 59 in this Test is his second Test fifty, the first being his 92 at Mohali, the first Test of the ongoing series.

 

- MJ North's 128 in this Test provide the 84th occasion of an Australian batsman scoring a hundred against India.  His knock represents the 26th hundred in a Test at Bangalore and also provide the seventh hundred by an Australian batsman. The other six occasions are - 153* by ME Waugh in Mar 1998, 102* by MA Taylor in Mar 1998, 151 by MJ Clarke in Oct 2004, 104 by AC Gilchrist in Oct 2004, 123 by RT Ponting in Oct 2008 and 146 by MEK Hussey in Oct 2008.

 

- MJ Johnson failed to score in this Test providing the 137th occasion of an Australian batsman scoring a duck against Australia.

 

- NM Hauritz's run out for 17 in this game provide the 48th occasion of an Australian batsman dismissed run out against India.

 

- PP Ojha {3 for 120} and Harbhajan Singh {4 for 148} conceded 100 plus runs in this innings providing the 101st and 102nd occasion of Indian bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in an innings against Australia.

 

- Harbhajan Singh has conceded 100 plus runs in an innings against Australia on 13 occasions which includes 148 runs conceded in this innings. Only A Kumble has conceded 100 plus runs in an innings on more occasions against Australia than Harbhajan Singh. A Kumble has conceded 100 plus runs in an innings on 15 occasions.

 

- Harbhajan Singh has conceded 100 plus runs in an innings on 38 occasions which includes 148 runs conceded in this innings. Other bowlers to concede 100 plus runs on more than 38 occasions are - M Muralitharan {61}, A Kumble {57}, SK Warne {40} and Danish Kaneria {39}.

 

- Australia's 478 in this Test provide the fourth occasion of it posting a total of 400 plus runs at Bangalore. Other occasions are - 474 in Oct 2004, 430 in Oct 2008 and 400 in Mar 1998. Thus its 478 in this Test represent its highest team total at Bangalore.

 

- V Sehwag's six of MG Johnson {third ball of sixth over} represent the 50th six by Indian batsmen in Tests at Bangalore. Later on M Vijay hit a six of N Hauritz {third delivery of 15th over} which was the 51st six by Indian batsmen at Bangalore.

 

- Prior to the start of the Bangalore Test, V Sehwag has an aggregate of 1476 runs against Australia. He required 24 more runs for his 1500 runs against Australia. He got those runs when he drove debutant PR George's second delivery to the long on boundary and took his score from 21 to 25 and his aggregate from 1497 to 1501. At the end of his innings he has an aggregate of 1506. He became the sixth Indian batsman to total 1500 plus runs against Australia. Others who have 1500 plus runs prior to the start of the Bangalore Test are - SR Tendulkar {2884}, VVS Laxman {2279}, R Dravid {1927} and SM Gavaskar {1550}.

 

- R Dravid has played his 55th Test batting at number three at home at Mohali. He has equalled the record held by RT Ponting who has played 55 home Tests. Dravid's second Test at Bangalore has given him record 56 appearances at home while batting at number three.

 

- R Dravid was dismissed for one in this innings providing the sixth occasion of his being dismissed for one in a Test innings. The other five occasions are - vs New Zealand at Mohali in Oct 1999, vs New Zealand at Kanpur in Oct 1999, vs Zimbabwe at Delhi in Feb 2002, vs Australia at Brisbane in Dec 2003 and vs South Africa at Johannesburg in Dec 2006.

 

- SR Tendulkar completed 14,000 runs in Test cricket when he executed a backfoot cover drive of N Hauritz {fourth delivery of 27th over} to take his score from 25 to 29 and his aggregate from 13998 to 14002. He became the first batsman in the annals of Test cricket to reach the 14000 runs land mark.
