Nagpur Test: India vs New Zealand, Day 1 – Statistical Highlights

- New Zealand capped AJ McKay for this test. He became the 248th cricketer to represent New Zealand in tests. He became the 22nd New Zealand cricketer to make test debut against India.

 

- New Zealand won the toss in this test and batted first providing the 19th occasion of New Zealand winning the toss and batting first against India in India-New Zealand test series.

 

- JD Ryder 's 59 in this test is his sixth test half century and ninth fifty. It also represents the 132nd occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a fifty  and 95th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a half century against India.

 

- Harbhajan Singh captured his 375th test wicket when he claimed the wicket of JD Ryder caught by SK Raina for 59. He became the 14th bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 375 plus wickets. He became the third Indian bowler to capture 375 plus test wickets after A Kumble {619} and N Kapil Dev {434}.

 

- At the end of the first day of the test, Harbhjan Singh has conceded 12001 runs. He became the third Indian bowler to concede 12000 plus runs. The other two are - A Kumble {18355} and N Kapil Dev {12867}.

 

- Harbhajan Singh became the seventh bowler in the annals of test cricket to concede 12000 plus runs. The complete list read thus - A Kumble {18355}, M Muralithraran {18180}, SK Warne {17995}, N Kapil Dev {12867}, CA Walsh {12688}, GD McGrath {12186} and Harbhajan Singh {12001}.

 

- KS Williamson's zero in this test provides the 84th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a duck against India. His duck represent the 48th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a duck against India on away soil - that is on Indian soil.

 

- New Zealand lost five wickets for 51 runs providing the sixth occasion of New Zealand losing five wickets under 52 runs. The six occasions are - 5 for 33 at Kanpur in Oct 1999, 5 for 37 at Mumbai {BS} in Mar 1965, 5 for 47 at Kolkata in Dec 1955, 5 for 49 at Mumbai {BS} in Sep 1969, 5 for 50 vs Mumbai in Nov 1976 and 5 for 51 at Nagpur in Nov 2010.
