Mahela’s rare distinction at Colombo-SSC

Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka became the first batsman in the annals of Test cricket to aggregate 2500 runs at a specific venue. He earned this distinction when he was on 33 during the course of his knock of 174 on the second day in the second Test at Col-SSC against India in the ongoing Test series. His aggregate at the end of Sri Lanka's first innings stood at 2641. Prior to the second Test he has an aggregate of 2467 at Col-SSC.

 

- Mahela Jayawardne of Sri Lanka {2641} and Graham Gooch of England {2015} are the only two batsmen in the annals of Test cricket to aggregate 2000 plus runs at a specific venue. Mahela's feat came at Col-SSC while Gooch achieved the feat at Lord's - hailed as "Mecca of Cricket".

- With his hundred - 174 - in this Test Mahela Jayawardene which was his tenth hundred at Col-SSC earned the distinction of scoring most hundreds at a specific venue. He wrested the record from DG Bradman of Australia who had scored nine hundreds at Melborune.
