IPL 2011 Finals: Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore

- Chennai won this game by 58 runs providing the seventh occasion of a team winning the game by 50 plus runs margin in IPL 2011.  The other six occasions are -  Mohali winning by 111 runs vs Bangalore at Dharamsala on 17.05.11, Bangalore winning by 85 runs vs Mohali at Bangalore on 06.05.11, Hyderabad winning by 82 runs vs Mohali at Dharamsala on 21.05.11, Mohali winning by 76 runs vs Mumbai at Mohali on 10.05.11, Chennai winning by 63 runs vs Jaipur at Jaipur on 09.05.11 and Hyderabad winning by 55 runs vs Kochi at Kochi on 27.04.11.

 

- Chennai became the third team to carve a 50 plus runs margin win in IPL 2011. Others are - Mohali and Hyderabad.

 

- Chennai's win by 58 runs in this game provide the 22nd occasion of a team winning a game by 50 plus runs margin in IPL. This win was Chennai's fifth win by 50 plus runs margin in IPL. Chennai now holds the record for most win by 50 plus runs margin in IPL. The previous record was four wins and was held by Mumbai.

 

- MEK Hussey and M Vijay added 159 runs for the first wicket in this game providing the 59th occasion of a century partnership in IPL. This stand also represents the 21st occasion of a three figure stand for the first wicket in IPL.

 

- This stand represents the highest three figure partnership for the first wicket in IPL. The previous best was 155 runs unfinished stand between AC Gilchrist and VVS Laxman of Hyderabad vs Mumbai at Mumbai on 27.04.08.

 

- This stand represents the highest three figure partnership for any wicket by Chennai batsmen in IPL. The previous best was 152 runs for the third wicket between M Vijay and JA Morkel vs Jaipur at Chennai on 03.04.10.

 

- It is interesting to note that the 159 runs stand between MEK Hussey and M Vijay for the first wicket in this game is the second occasion of Chennai batsman posting a three figure partnership for the first wicket. The other occasion was - 106 runs between PA Patel and ML Hayden vs Bangalore at Port Elizabeth on 20.04.09.

- M Vijay's 95 in this game provide the eleventh occasion of a batsman scoring a ninety in IPL and the third such occasion in IPL 2011. Others are - 95 not out by S Dhawan of Hyderabad vs Mohali at Dharamsala on 21.05.11 and 95 by SE Marsh of Mohali vs Delhi at Delhi on 23.04.11.

 

- MEK Hussey {63} and M Vijay {95} scored fifties in this game providing the 94th and 95th occasion of a batsman scoring a fifty in IPL 2011. Their knocks also represent the 18th and 19th occasion of Chennai batsmen scoring fifties in IPL 2011.

 

- S Arvind took two wickets in this game which gave him a total of 21 wickets in IPL 2011. He now stands third in the list of most wicket takers in IPL 2011. SL Malinga {28} and MM Patel {22} occupy the first two places. S Aravind went past A Mishra {19}  on his way to the third position. Later on, in Bangalore’s innings, R Ashwin with his three wickets in this game took his tally of wickets to 20 in IPL 2011, became the fourth bowler to capture 20 plus wickets.

 

- MEK Hussy's 63 in this game represent his fourth fifty in IPL 2011. He became the eighth    batsman to score four or more fifties in IPL 2011. Others are - CH Gayle {05}, S Badrinath {05}, SE Marsh {04}, JH Kallis {04}, V Kohli {04}, SK Raina {04} and AT Rayudu {04}.

 

- M Vijay scored six sixes in this game which game a total of 20 sixes in IPL 2011. MS Dhoni scored two sixes in this game which gave him a total of 23 sixes in IPL 2011. The following is the complete list of batsman who have scored 20 plus sixes in IPL 2011 - CH Gayle {44}, MS Dhoni {23}, SE Marsh {20}, PC Valthaty {20} and M Vijay {20}.  It can be noted that M Vijay joined the list, while MS Dhoni occupied second place amongst the batsmen who have scored most sixes in IPL 2011.

 

- V Kohli took his aggregate to 557 with his 35 in this game. His aggregate is second to CH Gayle's 608 in IPL 2011.  V Kohli went past SR Tendulkar's 553 on his way to second position. SE Marsh with 504 is the fourth batsman to total 500 plus runs in IPL 2011.

 

- V Kohli's 557 in IPL 2011 is listed fifth among the batsmen who have scored most runs in a single edition of IPL. The other four are - First place - SR Tendulkar - 618 in 2010, Second place - SE Marsh - 616 in 2008, Third place - 608 by CH Gayle in 2011, Joint Fourth Place - ML Hayden - 572 in 2009 and JH Kallis - 572 in 2009.

 

- MEK Hussey {63} and M Vijay {95} scored fifties in this game providing the 15th occasion of two batsmen scoring fifties in an innings in IPL 2011.
