Approaching Milestones Ahead of England-India Test Series

The first test slated to start on 21st Jul 2011 at Lord's, has two statistical highlights of importance. This test will be the 100th test between the two teams and 2000th test in the annals of test cricket.

 

 

India and England have played 99 Tests prior to the start of this series. India has won 19 Tests, England has won 35 Tests and 45 Tests were drawn.

 

 

India and England would become the fifth pair teams to play 100 tests between them. Other team pairs are - Australia-England {326}, England-West Indies {145}, England-South Africa {138} and Australia-West Indies {108}. Thus England would become the only team to play 100 tests against four specific oppositions.

 

 

India has played 48 Tests on away soil and has won 05 tests, lost 23 tests and 20 tests were drawn. India would be playing its 50th Test against England in England when the two teams meet at Nottingham to play the second Test of the ensuing series.

 

 

India would become the tenth country to play the 50th Test on away soil against an opposition. The other nine are: Australia vs England {156}, England vs Australia {170}, West Indies vs England {80}, England vs South Africa {77}, England vs West Indies {65}, West Indies vs Australia {63}, South Africa vs England {61}, England vs India {51} and New Zealand vs England {50}.

 

 

R Dravid will become the second most capped cricketer in the annals of test cricket representing a specific country. Lord's Test would be his 153rd test representing India and he would be going past RT Ponting who has played 152 tests. SR Tendulkar would be playing his 178th test at Lord's and holds the record for most capped cricketer.

 

 

R Dravid who has an aggregate of 12314 runs prior to the start of the series requires 50 runs to surpass RT Ponting's aggregate of 12363 runs. If he gets it, R Dravid would occupy the second place among the batsmen who have scored most runs in the annals of test cricket. SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 14692 runs prior to the start of the test series.

 

 

SR Tendulkar requires one more half century for his 60th half century. If he gets the same, he would become the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 60 or more half centuries. AR Border {63} and R Dravid {60} are the other two batsmen who have scored 60 plus half centuries.

 

 

R Dravid who has an aggregate of 1489 runs prior to the start of the series, requires eleven more runs for his 1500 runs against England. He would then become the fifth Indian batsman to score 1500 plus runs against England. Others are - SM Gavaskar {2483}, SR Tendulkar {2150}, GR Viswanath {1880} and DB Vengsarkar {1589}.

 

 

SR Tendulkar who has an aggregate of 2150 runs prior to the start of the series, requires 334 more runs to surpass SM Gavaskar's aggregate of 2483 runs. If he gets there, SR Tendulkar would become not only India's most run getter against England but also the most run getter in India-England Test series.

 

 

R Dravid who has scored eight half centuries against England require two more half centuries for his ten half centuries. If he gets there, he would become the fourth Indian batsman to score ten or more half centuries against England. Others are - SM Gavaskar {16}, GR Viswanath {12}, SR Tendulkar {10}.

 

 

The first test at Lord's scheduled for 21.07.11 would be the 25th test for SR Tendulkar against England. He would become the fifth Indian cricketer to play 25 plus tests against England. Others are - SM Gavaskar {38}, GR Viswanath {30}, N Kapil Dev {27}, and DB Vengsarkar {26}.

 

 

It is interesting to note that SR Tendulkar is yet to be dismissed for a duck against England in his 24 tests and 39 innings.

 

 

AJ Strauss would become the 28th England captain to lead against India in the 100th test between England and India when he leads England against India at Lord's. He also earns the distinction of becoming the England's 16th captain to lead against India at Lord's - "The Mecca of Cricket".

 

 

SR Tendulkar who has scored 17 fifties {07 C plus 10 HC} prior to the start of the series requires three more half centuries to equal the India-England series record for most fifties held by SM Gavaskar who has scored 20 half centuries {04 C plus 16 HC}. If SR Tendulkar gets there he would become the second batsman to score 20 fifties in Indian-England test series. He also would earn the distinction of becoming the second Indian batsman after SM Gavaskar to score 20 fifties against England.

 

 

R Dravid who has an aggregate of 9868 runs while batting at number three require 132 more runs for 10000 runs. If he gets there he would achieve the unique distinction of
becoming the first batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 10000 runs while batting at number three.

 

 

SR Tendulkar who has scored 49 half centuries while batting at number four require one more half century of his 50th half century. If he gets it, he would become the first batman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 half centuries while batting at number four.

 

 

SR Tendulkar who has scored 24 hundreds while batting at number four on away soil, require one more hundred for 25 hundreds. If he gets it, he would become the first batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 25 hundred at number four on away soil.

 

 

R Dravid who has scored 18 hundreds on away soil require one more hundred for his 19th hundred. If gets it, he would then go past SM Gavaskar who has scored 18 hundreds on away soil. SR Tendulkar with 29 hundreds to his credit holds the records for most hundreds on away soil.

 

 

R Dravid who has scored 915 runs against England in England require 85 more runs for his 1000 runs. If he gets it, he would become the 30th batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 1000 runs against England in England. R Dravid would also earn the distinction of becoming the third Indian batsman to accomplish such a feat. Others are - SR Tendulakr {1302} and SM Gavaskar {1152}.

 

 

MS Dhoni would become the 15th Indian captain against England in England as he leads India in the first test at Lord's.

 

 

Indian captains to lead India against England in England and at Lord's for the first occasion in their career are - CK Naidu, Maharaj Kumar of Vizianagaram {Vizzy}, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, P Roy, AL Wadekar, SM Gavaskar and SC Ganguly. Thus MS Dhoni would become the eighth Indian captain to achieve such a distinction.

 

 

MS Dhoni would become the ninth captain-cum-wicket keeper to lead a team against England in England as he leads India at Lord's in the first test. Others are - JM Blackham {03}, PW Sherwell {03}, RK Nunes {03}, BN Jarman {01}, Wasim Bari {03}, AJ Stewart {08}, A Flower {02} and AC Giclchrist {01}.

 

 

MS Dhoni would become the eighth visiting captain-cum-wicket keeper to lead a team against England in England as he leads India in the first test. Others are - JM Blackham of Australia {03}, PW Sherwell of South Africa {03}, RK Nunes of West Inides {03}, BN Jarman of Australia {01}, Wasim Bari of Pakistan {03}, A Flower of Zimbabwe {02} and AC Gilchrist of Australia {01}.

 

 

At the end of the four test series, MS Dhoni would become the first visiting captain-cum-wicket keeper to lead a team against England in England in most tests - four.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has scored three hundreds as captain-cum-wicket keeper require one more hundred to surpass the record of A Flower of Zimbabwe who also has scored three hundreds as captain-cum-wicket keeper. If MS Dhoni scores one more hundred and get his fourh hundred, he would earn the distinction of scoring most hundreds in the annals of test cricket in the dual capacity of captain-cum-wicket keeper.

 

 

The record of most half centuries is held by SM Gavaskar who has scored 14 half centuries. MS Dhoni has scored 12 half centuries prior to the start of the series and require two more half centuries to equal SM Gavaskar's 14 half centuries and three more half centuries to surpass it and to earn the record of most half centuries by an Indian captain with 15 half centuries. On his way to the top position, MS Dhoni would go past SC Ganguly and MAK Pataudi who have scored 13 half centuries.

 

 

Harbhajan Singh who has captured 41 wickets against England prior to the start of the series requires nine more wickets for his 50 wickets. If he gets it, he would become the sixth Indian bowler to capture 50 plus wickets against England. Others are - BS Chandrashekhar {95}, A Kumble {92}, BS Bedi {85}, N Kapil Dev {85} and MH Mankad {54}.

 

 

Harbhajan Singh who has captured 41 wickets against England prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for his 42 wickets. If he gets it, he would earn the record of becoming the Indian off spin bowler to capture most wickets against England. He would go past EAS Prasanna's 41 wickets on way to his record.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has captured 29 wickets against England in England prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for his 30 wickets as a left arm pace bowler. If he gets it he would then become the fourth left arm pace bowler to capture 30 plus wickets against England in England. Others are - Wasim Akram of Pakistan {53}, TL Goddard of South Africa {42} and AK Davidson {33}.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has captured 29 wickets against England in England prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for his 30 wickets. If he gets it he would then become the fifth Indian bowler to capture 30 plus wickets against England in England. Others are - N Kapil Dev {43}, A Kumble {36}, BS Bedi {35} and BS Chandrashekhar {31}.

 

 

JM Anderson who has captured 24 wickets against India prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for 25 wickets. If he gets it, he would then become the 20th England bowler to capture 25 or more wickets against India.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has effected 27 dismissals against England requires three more dismissals for his 30 dismissals. If he gets it he would then become the third Indian wicket keeper to effect 30 plus dismissals against England. Others are - SMH Kirmani {42} and KS More {37}.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has pouched 24 catches against England requires one more catch for his 25 catches. If he gets it he would then become the third Indian wicket keeper to affect 30 plus dismissals against England. Others are - KS More {33} and SMH Kirmani {31}.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has a record of being the only wicket keeper cum captain to effect 100 plus dismissals in the annals of test cricket {102 dismissals - 91 ct plus 11 st} is set to earn one more record during the ensuing test series. He needs nine more catches for his 100th catch in the dual role of wicket keeper captain. If he gets it, he would then become the first wicket keeper captain to pouch 100 plus catches in the dual role of wicket keeper captain.

 

 

SMH Kirmani and MS Dhoni share the Indian record for most catches by wicket keepers. Both have pouched 160 catches prior to the start of the series. MS Dhoni needs just one more catch to earn the record of most catches by an Indian wicket keeper going past SMH Kirmani's 160 catches.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has pouched 93 catches on away soil requires seven more catches for 100 catches. If he gets it, he would then become the tenth wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket to pouch 100 plus catches on away soil. Others are - MV Boucher {217}, IA Healy {161}, AC Gilchrist {147}, PJL Dujon {144}, Wasim Bari {138}, Kamran Akmal {125}, RW Marsh {123}, DL Murray {117} and RD Jacobs {107}.

 

 

MS Dhoni who has effected 12 stumpings on away soil requires three more stumpings for 15 stumping dismissals. If he gets it, he would then become the sixth wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket to effect 15 plus dismissals on away soil. Others are - SMK Kirmani {19}, WAS Old field {19}, Kamran Akmal {16}, MV Boucher {15} and RS Kaluwitharana {15}.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has an aggregate of 271 wickets prior to the start of the series requires four more wickets for 275 wickets. If he gets it, he would then become the fourth left arm bowler to capture 275 plus wickets in the annals of test cricket. Others are - Wasim Akram {414}, WPUJC Vaas {355} and DL Underwood {297}.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has an aggregate of 271 wickets prior to the start of the series requires four more wickets for 275 wickets. If he gets it, he would then become the third left arm pace bowler to capture 275 plus wickets in the annals of test cricket. Others are - Wasim Akram {414} and WPUJC Vaas {355}.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has an aggregate of 174 wickets on away soil prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for 175 wickets. If he gets it, he would then become the fourth left arm bowler to capture 175 plus wickets in the annals of test cricket. Others are - Wasim Akram {255}, DL Vettori {190} and WPUJC Vaas {355}.

 

 

Zaheer Khan who has an aggregate of 174 wickets on away soil prior to the start of the series requires one more wicket for 175 wickets. If he gets it, he would then become the third left arm pace bowler to capture 175 plus wickets on away soil in the annals of test cricket. Others are - Wasim Akram {255} and WPUJC Vaas {175}.

 

 

R Dravid who has an aggregate of 1434 runs while batting in the fourth innings of a test match prior to the start of the series require seven more runs to overhaul the existing record of 1440 runs scored by BC Lara. If he gets it, he would earn the distinction of scoring most runs while batting in the fourth innings of a test in the annals of test cricket.

 

 

R Dravid who has an aggregate of 3966 while batting in the first innings of a test prior to the start of the test series require 34 more runs for his 4000 runs. If he gets it he would become the sixth batsman to score 4000 plus runs while batting in the first innings of a test match. Others are - SR Tendulkar {5397}, RT Ponting {4986}, SR Waugh {4855}, AR Border {4056} and BC Lara {4000}.

 

 

R Dravid who has played 265 innings prior to the start of the series requires one more innings to play his 266th test innings. His first innings appearance at Lord's would be his 266th innings and he would go past AR Border's 265 innings to become the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to play most innings. SR Tendulkar would be playing his 291st innings in India's first innings at Lord's and holds the record for a batsman who has played most innings in the annals of test cricket.

 

 

R Dravid who has scored 73 fifties while batting at number three requires three more fifties for his 76 fifties. If he gets them, he would earn the distinction of scoring most fifties while batting at number three. RT Ponting who has scored 75 fifties while batting at number holds the present record.

 

 

R Dravid who has scored 47 half centuries while batting at number three requires three more half centuries for his 50 half centuries. If he gets them, he then would become the first batsman to score 50 half centuries while batting at number three in the annals of test cricket.

 

 

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have added 6352 runs in 129 innings in which they have batted together prior to the start of the series. They require 151 more runs to overhaul the existing record of 6482 runs held by CG Greenidge and DL Haynes in 148 innings in which they have batted together.

 

 

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have partnered 24 occasions in half century stands prior to the start of the series. They require one more half century stand for 25 such partnerships. If they get it, they would become the third pair of batsmen in the annals of test cricket to partner in 25 plus half century stands. Others are - ML Hayden-J Langer {28} and CG Greenidge-DL Haynes {26}.

 

 

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have added 833 runs in 18 innings against England and require two more runs the overhaul the existing record of 834 runs added by SC Ganguly and SR Tendulkar. If they get it, then R Dravid and SR Tendulkar pair would earn the distinction of adding most runs against England.

 

 

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have added 833 runs in 18 innings against England and require 167 more runs for 1000 runs, If they get it, they would become the first Indian pair to add 1000 plus runs against England and also earn the distinction of becoming the 16th pair of batsmen to add 1000 plus runs against England.

 

 

R Dravid and VVS Laxman have added 2460 runs on away soil prior to the start of the series require 40 runs for 2500 runs. If they get them they would become the fourth paid of batsmen in the annals of test cricket to add 2500 runs on away soil. Others are - R Dravid-SR Tendulkar {3387}, CG Greenidge-DL Haynes {2948} and ML Hayden-JL Langer {2540}. R Dravid would earn the distinction of becoming the only batsman in the annals of test cricket to add 2500 plus runs on away soil with two partners - SR Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.
