Approaching milestones ahead of Bangalore Test

- India and Australia are scheduled to play the second test at Bangalore during 09.10.10 and 13.10.10.

 

- Prior to the start of the test, MJ Clarke has an aggregate of 985 runs against India. He requires 15 runs to complete 1000 runs against India. If he gets them he would become the ninth batsman to total 1000 plus runs against India.

 

- ML Hayden, RT Ponting and DC Boon share the record of most hundreds by an Australian batsman against India. One more hundred to RT Ponting will be his seventh hundred and with it he would own the record of most hundreds by an Australian batsman against India.

 

- R Dravid has an aggregate of 1927 runs representing India prior to the start of the Bangalore test. He requires 73 runs for his 2000 run aggregate against Australia. Should he get them he would become the third Indian batsman to total 2000 plus runs against Australia. SR Tendulkar {2884} and VVS Laxman {2279} have scored 2000 plus runs prior to the start of the Bangalore Test.

 

- R Dravid with his 2000 plus runs against Australia would provide the 59th occasion of a batsman totaling 2000 plus runs against a specific opposition. It would also provide the sixth occasion of an Indian batsman totaling 2000 plus runs against a specific opposition.

 

- SR Tendulkar and R Dravid have scored twelve half centuries against Australia. A half century to any of them would earn them the record of most half centuries by an Indian batsman against Australia.

 

- Prior to the start of the Bangalore test RT Ponting has scored four ducks against India. One more duck to him would make him the third Australian batsman to score five or more ducks against India. B Lee {06] and SK Warne {05} are the other batsmen who have scored five or more ducks against India.

 

- Harbhajan Singh has scored five ducks prior to the start of the Bangalore test. One more duck to him would give him six ducks. Should he get it. he would then share the second place along with BS Chandrashekhar who has also scored six ducks. AB Agarkar with eight ducks occupy the first place.

 

- RT Ponting has captained Australia in ten tests against India prior to the start of the Bangalore test. Bangalore test would be his eleventh test. By leading Australia against India in the second test at Bangalore, RT Ponting would share the record with AR Border who has led Australia against India in eleven tests.

 

- SR Tendulkar has played 30 tests against Australia prior to the start of the Bangalore test. Bangalore test would be his 31st test against Australia. He would become the second Indian batsman to play 31 plus tests against specific opposition. SM Gavaskar is the other batsman who has played 38 tests against England.

 

- Prior to the start of the Bangalore test, V Sehwag has an aggregate of 1476 runs against Australia. He requires 24 more runs for his 1500 runs against Australia. If he gets them, he would become the sixth Indian batsman to total 1500 plus runs against Australia. Others who have 1500 plus runs prior to the start of the Bangalore test are – SR Tendulkar {2884}, VVS Laxman {2279}, R Dravid {1927} and SM Gavaskar {1550}.

 

- RT Ponting has scored 13 half centuries against India and is on par with AR Border who has 13 half centuries. If he gets one more half century he would be on par with ML Hayden who has 14 half centuries and share the record for most half centuries by an Australian batsman with ML Hayden.

 

- SM Katich and MJ Clarke have scored eight half centuries and requires two more half centuries for the 10th half century against India. If they get them they would join the company of ML Hayden {14}, AR Border {13}, RT Ponting {13} and RB Simpson {10} who have scored ten or more half centuries against India prior to the start of the Bangalore test.

 

- RT Pontng has pouched 29 catches against India and is on par with ME Waugh who has also pouched 29 catches. One more catch for Ponting would give him 30 catches and with it the Australian record for most catches by a fieldsman against India.

 

- Prior to the start of the Bangalore test, R Dravid has an aggregate of 197 catches and three more catches would make him the first fieldsman ever to pouch 200 catches in the annals of test cricket.

 

- Prior to the start of the Bangalore test, R Dravid and SR Tendukar have an aggregate of 6076 partnership runs. They need six more runs to occupy the second place among the pair of batsmen who have an aggregate of 6000 partnership runs. They would go past Australian pair ML Hayden-JL Langer pair that has 6081 runs to its credit. CG Greenidge-DL Haynes of West Indies with 6482 runs has most runs.

 

- R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have 41 fifty plus runs partnerships between them and one more fifty plus partnerships would give them 42 fifty plus partnerships, Should they get them they would be on par with CG Greenidge-DL Haynes and ML Hayden-JL Langer pair who have 42 fifty plus runs partnerships.

 

- R Dravid has played his 55th test batting at number three at home at Mohali. He has equalled the record held by RT Ponting who has played 55 home tests. Dravid's second test at Bangalore would give record 56 appearances at home while batting at number three.

 

- Bangalore test would be the 69th away test {including neutral tests} for RT Ponting. He would occupy the fourth place among the Australians who have appeared in most away tests – SR Waugh {79}, SK Warne {76}, AR Border {70} and RT Ponting {69}.
