2nd Test: Sri Lanka vs India at Col-SSC – Day 4 highlights

- SK Raina scored hundred on his test when he scored 120 in this test. He became the 88th batsman to score a hundred on debut in the annals of test cricket. His hundred {120} in this test provide the 90th hundred by a batsman on test debut. He is the 12th Indian batsman to earn this distinction. - SK Raina with his 120 on his debut earned the distinction of becoming the fourth left hand Indian batsman to score a debut hundred. Others are - RH Shodhan, S Amarnath and SC Ganguly.

 

- SK Raina became the sixth Indian batsman to score a debut hundred on away soil. Others are - AA Baig, S Amarnath, PK Amre, SC Ganguly and V Sehwag.

 

- SK Raina is the fifth batsman and the first Indian batsman to score a debut hundred against Sri Lanka. Others are - Saleem Malik of Pakistan {100* at Karachi in Mar 1992}, Younis Khan of Pakistan {107 at Rawalpinidi in Feb 2000}, Mohammad Ashraful of Bangladesh {114 at Col-SSC in Sep 2001} and Fawad Alam of Pakistan {168 at Col-PSS in Jul 2009}.

 

- SK Raina became the 59th batsman to score a hundred on test debut; He is the 19th left hand batsman to achieve the distinction.

 

- SR Tendulkar with his score of 150 plus in this test, registered his 19th score of 150 plus runs in a test innings. He is now on par with BC Lara of West Indies who has also scored 150 plus runs on 19 occasions. SR Tendulkar wrested DG Bradman's record of 150 plus runs on 18 occasions on his way to join BC Lara.

 

- S Randiv bowled 50 plus overs in India's first innings providing the 32nd occasion of a bowler bowling more than 300 balls on test debut. He is the first Sri Lankan bowler to bowl 50 plus overs on debut.

 

 - SR Tendulkar became the first batsman to total 1000 plus runs against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. He earned this distinction when he was on 143 during his knock of 203 in this test. At the end of his innings his aggregate stood at 1060.

 

- SR Tendulkar and SK Raina added 256 runs for the fifth wicket in this test 46th occasion of Indian batsmen posting three figure partnerships against Sri Lanka. This stand represents the eighth occasion of a fifth wicket three figure partnership by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka. This partnership is a record partnership for the fifth wicket. The previous best was 150 runs between SC Ganguly and SR Tendulkar at Col-SSC in Aug 1997.

 

- SR Tendulkar and SK Raina added 256 runs for the fifth wicket in this test providing the fourth occasion of Indian batsmen posting 250 plus runs for the fifth wicket against various oppositions. The other three occasions are - 376 runs between R Dravid and VVS Laxman vs Australia at Kolkata in Mar 2001, 303 runs between R Dravid and VVS Laxman vs Australia at Adelaide in Dec 2003 and 300 runs between SC Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh vs Pakistan at Bangalore in Dec 2007.

 

- SR Tendulkar and SK Raina added 256 runs for the fifth wicket in this test providing the third occasion of Indian batsmen posting 250 plus runs for the various wickets against Sri Lanka. The other two occasions are - 276 runs for the sixth wicket between M Azaharuddin and N Kapil Dev at Kanpur in Dec 1986 and 256 runs between SC Ganguly and SR Tendulkar for the fourth wicket at Mumbai in Dec 1997. Thus the 256 runs stand between SR Tendulkar and SK Raina in this test represent the highest partnership for any wicket by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

 

- SR Tendulkar and SK Raina added 256 runs for the fifth wicket in this test providing the 20th occasion of Indian batsmen posting 250 plus runs for various wickets and against various oppositions. This stand also represents the seventh occasion of Indian batsmen posting 250 plus runs for various wickets and against various oppositions on away soil.

 

- KC Sangakkara {219} and SR Tendulkar (203} scored double hundreds in this test providing the 17th occasion of rival batsmen scoring double hundreds in a test match.

 

- SR Tendulkar registered his fifth double hundred of his test career when he scored 203 in this test. Other four double hundreds are - 217 vs New Zealand at Ahmedabad in Oct 1999, 201* vs Zimbabwe at Nagpur in Nov 2000, 241* vs Australia at Sydney in Jan 2004 and 248* vs Bangaldesh at Dhaka in Dec 2004.

 

- With five double hundreds to his credit, he became the eleventh batsman to score five or more double hundreds in the annals of test cricket. Others are - DG Bradman {12}, BC Lara {09}, WR Hammond {07}, KC Sangakkara {07}, MS Atapattu {06}, Javed Miandad {06}, DPMD Jayawardene {06}, V Sehwag {06}, R Dravid {05}, RT Ponting {05}.

 

- SR Tendulkar became the third Indian batsman to score five or more double hundreds. The other two are - V Sehwag {06} and R Dravid {05}.

 

- The second test between Sri Lanka and India at Col-SSC would go unique in the annals of test cricket as it contained five batsmen who have scored five or more double hundreds - KC Sangakkara {07}, DPMD Jayawardene {06}, V Sehwag {06}, R Dravid {05} and SR Tendulkar {05}.

 

- S Randiv conceded 212 runs at the end of the fourth day in this test. He became the third bowler in the annals of test cricket to concede 200 plus runs on debut. The others are - OA Banks of West Indies conceded 204 runs against Australia at Bridgetown in May 2003 and JJ Kreza of Australia conceded 215 runs against India at Nagpur in Nov 2008.

 

- S Randiv conceded 212 runs at the end of the fourth day in this test providing the 27th occasion of a bowler coneding 200 plus runs in a test innings in the annals of test cricket. He is the third Sri Lankan bowler to suffer such an ignominy. Other two bowlers are - M Muaralitharan {224} vs Australia at Perth in Dec 1995 and HMRKB Herath {240} vs India at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 2009.

 

- S Randiv became the eighth bowler to concede 200 plus runs in a test innings against India. Others are - Haseeb Ahsan of Pakistan {202} at Chennai in Jan 1961, DL Vettori of New Zealand {200} at Ahmedbad in Oct 1999, B Lee of Australia {201} at Sydney in Jan 2004, Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan {204} at Multan in Mar 2004, PJ Harris of South Africa {203} at Chennai in Mar 2008, JJ Kreza of Australia {215} at Nagpur in Nov 2008, HMRKB Herath of Sri Lanka {240} at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 2009 and S Randiv of Sri Lanka {212} at Col-SSC in Jul 2010.

 

- Sri Lanka and India scored 642 for 4d and 669 for 9 {at the end of the fourth day} respectively in this test providing the fourth occasion of rival teams scoring 600 plus runs in their first innings in the annals of test cricket. The other three occasions are - Australia {656 for 8d} and England {611} at Manchester in Jul 1964, Sri Lanka {644 for 7d} and Pakistan {765 for 6d} at Karachi in Feb 2009 and England {600 for 6d} and West Indies {749 for 9d} at Bridgetown in Feb 2009.

 

- SR Tendulkar's run aggregate against Sri Lanka stood at 1900. His 203 in this test was highest individual score against Sri Lanka. His previous best was 148 at Mumbai {WS} in Dec 1997.

 

- SR Tendular's 203 in this test provide the 295th occasion of a batsman scoring a double hundred and 126th of a batsmon scoring a double hundred on away soil.

 

- SR Tendulkar's 203 in this test provide the 39th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a double hundred in a test innings. It also provides the third occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a double hundred in a test innings against Sri Lanka. The other two occasions are - 201* by V Sehwag at Galle in Jul 2008 and 293 by V Sehwag at Mumbai {BS} in Dec 2009.

- MS Dhoni has an aggregate of 2541 runs as wicket keeper batsman. He completed 2500 runs during the course of his knock of 76 in this game. He became the third Indian wicket keeper batsman to aggregate 2500 plus runs. Others are - SMH Kirmani {2759} and FM Engineer {2611}.
