    R Dravid completed 1500 runs against West Indies during the course of his knock of 112 in the second innings of this test. At the end of this test his aggregate stood at 1560 plus.     First Test : West Indies vs India at Kingston : Second day's play

     

    Praveen Kumar captured three wickets in the first innings on his debut - the wickets of AD Barath, DM Bravo and BP Nash - to become the ninth Indian bowler to capture three or more wickets on test debut against West Indies.
     

    Praveen Kumar became the first Indian bowler to capture three wickets on test debut against West Indies in West Indies after A Kuruvilla. A Kuruvilla had captured three wickets conceding 82 runs at Kingston in Mar 1997.

     

    Harbhajan Singh took his tally of wickets against West Indies to 47 at the end of the first innings of this test. He needs three more wickets for his 50 wickets against West Indies and five more wickets for his 400 wickets in tests.

     

    India gained the first innings lead of 71 runs in this test to provide the tenth occasion of India doing so.

  • Third Test: England vs Sri Lanka

    Southampton became the newest test centre when it hosted the test match between England and Sri Lanka. Southampton became the tenth ground in England to host the tests. Others are - Lord's, The Oval, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Chester-le-Street, Cardiff and Sheffield. Southampton became the 105th ground to host a test match in the annals of test cricket.

     

     

    England won the toss and inserted the opposition in this test. This act provides the 78th occasion of England doing so in tests and also the fifth occasion of England doing so against Sri Lanka in tests. The other four occasions are - at Lord's in Aug 1984, at Lord's in Aug 1988, at Birmingham in May 2002 and at Galle in Dec 2007.

     

     

    Sri Lanka capped HDRL Thirimanne for this game. He became the 116th Sri Lankan cricketer to appear for Sri Lanka in tests. He is the 23rd Sri Lankan cricketer to make his test debut against England. He is the third Sri Lankan opening batsman to make his test debut against England.
