Profile

Probably the greatest left-arm Indian fast bowler ever, Zaheer Khan arrived on the scene at the right time. Javagal Srinath was nearing retirement and India needed a fast bowler who could fill those big boots. Zaheer not only filled those boots but according to many even went ahead of Srinath for his sheer ability to reverse swing with the old ball and bowl fast yorkers consistently. One could safely say that no Indian bowler before or after Zaheer has mastered the art of reverse swing as well as he did.

Zaheer has taken more than 300 wickets in Tests, which is the second highest for an Indian fast bowler after the legendary Kapil Dev. In ODIs again he is the second highest wicket-taker among Indian fast bowlers, this time behind Srinath.

Zaheer was part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, and in fact was the joint highest wicket-taker in the tournament with Shahid Afridi on 21 wickets. Injuries definitely shortened his career and after playing his last limited-overs games in 2012 and Test match in 2014, he called it quits in 2015. In the Indian Premier League, Zaheer played for Bangalore and Mumbai, and in 2016 and 2017 also captained Delhi.
