Profile
Another South African addition to the English dressing room, Staurt Meaker made headlines when he was picked in England’s ODI squad for their tour to India in late 2011. Born in Pietermaritzburg, Natal, he moved to England with his family in 2001.
A right-arm fast bowler, Meaker received his U19 call-up as soon as he finished his school career by winning plenty of awards for his fast bowling. Debuting for Surrey at the tender of 18, he spent the winter of 2008 in Sydney, playing grade cricket. His stint there only made him better with his return in 2009. The following year was full of struggle but the young lad did not give up and had an eventful start to the 2011 season, which marked his debut for England Lions against the touring Sri Lankans.
Fast Facts
- In 2003, Stuart Meaker won the Daily Telegraph fast bowling award, the Channel 4 outstanding team player award and the AA Thompson fielding award.
- He was also the first recipient of the ECB Harold Larwood Fast Bowling Scholarship to Australia.
