Profile
A hugely promising leg spinner, Cremer made his Test debut when he was just 18 following the exits of Paul Strang and Andy Whittal from Zimbabwean cricket, and straight away impressed with six wickets in his first two Tests against Bangladesh. The South African challenge followed and despite receiving a hiding from the prolific Proteas batsman, Cremer still managed to come away from the series unscathed. But Zimbabwe’s consequent self-exile from Test cricket dealt him a heavy blow as selectors deemed him unfit for the shorter formats of the game.
During a long hiatus which stretched for three years, Cremer worked hard on his batting and bowling and was finally rewarded in 2008 when he debuted in the T20 format against Canada. An impressive debut where his finished with figures of 2-10 propelled him into Zimbabwe’s ODI team and he went on to have a phenomenal debut series against the Kenyans, scalping 15 wickets from five games at an average of 11.46.
Gradually he worked his way into the ODI side and has now become an integral part of a pre-dominant spin attack. Regarded to be one of the best spinners in the country, Cremer is still in the process of learning the tricks of trade but just as wine which improves over time, Cremer too is expected to be Zimbabwe’s spin prodigy in future.
