Profile
A right-hand batsman and a leg spinner, Collins Obuya shot to prominence in the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup, as his team shocked the cricketing fraternity by entering the semi-finals.
“Collo” as he is nicknamed, impressed with 13 wickets at 28.76 in the WC, which subsequently earned him a one-year stint with Warwickshire. Obuya was unlucky to have missed out on a place in the team for the 2004 Champions Trophy. He then joined his teammates for the players' strike and proceeded to play club cricket for South Africa. His struggle with the ball continued and despite repeated efforts, he failed to capitalize on it. Obuya then concentrated fully on his batting and has been the team's specialist batsman since then.
Post Kenya's awful performance in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, the then Kenyan captain, Jimmy Kamande was removed from captaincy and replaced with Collins Obuya. This move came just one day after Mike Hesson, the New Zealander, was appointed Kenya's coach.
Fast Facts
