Brendan Nash will always have to bear the brunt for rejecting his home country in search of greener pastures but it is a decision that has put him on the cricketing map and offered him a chance to shine on the international stage.

The left hander played grade cricket for Brisbane and was also part of the Queensland Under-19 team. At the start of 2002-03 season, he scored 176 and 81 not out against NSW but that was to be the end of the fairytale as he struggled to reach even 40 in his next 20 innings. Finding it difficult to hold on to a place in the Queensland second XI, Nash was denied a contract in 2004-05 and when the same happened in 2007-08, he decided to move to the West Indies to resurrect his career.

Representing Jamaica, he played a key role in their domestic one-day competition win scoring a masterful 117 in the final of the tournament. A rewarding first domestic season was followed by a stint in England which earned him a place in the West Indies ODI side for the Tri-series against Bermuda and Canada. It was followed by a Test call-up and only in his 2nd Test; he had scores of 74 and 65. He has since then become a key member in Tests, proving invaluable in the middle order and was named vice-captain of the Test side in 2010.
