Profile

Sulieman Benn is an aberration in the Barbados team, and for that matter the West Indian team that is more famous for the faster variety of bowlers. He is a tall, left arm, orthodox spinner, something that West Indies have not been blessed with too often. His key trait has been the bounce that he gets because of his height, making it very difficult for the batsmen to score off him. In fact, it is this characteristic of being one of the more economic bowlers in the first class competition that has made him a permanent fixture in the Barbados side. However, it was his performances in the Stanford 20-20 tournament that made the selectors sit up and take notice. Even in this latest format of the game, his first six matches saw his economy as low as 4 runs per over, leapfrogging him into the National team.Sulieman Benn made his Test debut in the 2008 home series against Sri Lanka and picked up three wickets in the Sri Lankan second inning. He later went on to make his ODI debut as well on the same Sri Lankan tour, and although did not take any wickets, bowled well enough to remain in the selectors' mind for further matches.
