Unable to get an opportunity in New Zealand, Nigel Jones moved to Ireland and played his first domestic game for Civil Services North in 2007. Capable with both bat and ball, Jones made his List-A debut in a tour game against Jamaica.
Jones went on to make his international debut in a T20I at the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 against Afghanistan. He made his ODI debut against Kenya in in the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division One where he played a crucial role in helping the Irish win the trophy. Jones was also part of the Ireland's squad for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
