Mark Gillespie is a right-arm medium pacer who is a specialist bowler at the death. He has plenty of variations in his bowling which makes him a difficult bowler to hit in the slog overs. Despite his solid performance in domestic cricket, he found it hard to make it into the team because of Shane Bond’s dominance.He was in New Zealand’s 2007 World Cup squad but a viral infection in his right shoulder restricted his campaign. With a run-up similar to Bob Willis, Gillespie has been a dominant performer in the domestic circuit. Gillespie is also an excellent exponent of reverse-swing bowling. With Bond's switch to the ICL, new gates have opened for the right-arm seamer to nail a permanent place in the Kiwi team. Gillespie is one man around whom the new era of New Zealand pace attack will like to revolve in the future.
