The son of former BCCI secretary, Niranjan Shah, Jaydev Shah is an effective run-getter in the middle order of the Saurashtra cricket team. His leadership skills bagged him the captaincy of Saurashtra. He led the team to victory in the 2007-08 Ranji one-dayers, the team’s first ever national level title. They had earlier reached the semi-final of the Ranji trophy, a coup they repeated in the 2008-09 season. He also led the Indian squad on the tour of Israel.
Jaydev was signed by the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season of the IPL, but did not play a single game. He was also a part of the Mumbai Indians camp in the following editions. In 2011, the Deccan Chargers signed him for the fourth season. However, he returned to the Mumbai camp in 2012.
