Profile
Perhaps the biggest highlight of his career would be an unbeaten 222 on his Test debut against Bangladesh. Jacques Rudolph made his way into the South African national team in 2003, amid utter chaos of racial discrimination and internal politics. His sheer volume of domestic runs helped him a great deal as he put up a record-breaking third wicket partnership for his team with fellow team-mate, Boeta Dippenaar in the same match.
An elegant left-handed batsman with a flair for cover drive and a mixture of perfect footwork and balance, Rudolph was a victim of some unfortunate incidents in South African cricket history which obstructed his entry into international cricket time and again. But, soon after he debuted internationally, his batting silenced the critics. His innings of 105 not-out saved South Africa from a defeat at Perth in 2005; following which his form subsided. In 2007, he gave up his international career with South Africa and moved to Yorkshire as a Kolpak player on a three-year deal. However, consistent performances in South Africa’s domestic circuit in the 2011-12 season granted him a Test recall for the home series against Australia. An integral part of the Titans side in the domestic circuit since 2004, Rudolph was included in the T20 squad for the 2012 Champions League T20.
