Profile
The Harare-born Greg Lamb is a Zimbabwean cricketer who, at one stage of his career, looked done and dusted before rising up like a phoenix from the ashes to revive a career that had gone through its darkest days.
The right-hander who played for the CFX Academy, Zimbabwe’s Under-19 sides, Mashonaland A and Hampshire, is known for his attacking mentality and his huge appetite for runs. Part of Hampshire’s 2005 C&G Trophy winning side, he also played a crucial role in the English side finishing second in the county season and also backed it with a fine Twenty20 campaign. However, starting 2006, he struggled to clamp his place in the side and following little results in the next two seasons, Hampshire decided to do away with him towards the end of 2009. But, instead of jeopardizing his career, the axing proved to be a blessing in disguise as he returned to his homeland to play in the Logan Cup where, with his two hundreds and handy offspinners impressed selectors who handpicked him for the West Indies tour. In 2010, “Lamby” went on to debut against them in both ODIs and T20Is, and from initial appearances seems to be a player good enough to be a regular in the Zimbabwe side in future.
