Profile

An injury to Ben Hilfenhaus forced the Australian selectors to dip into their deep pockets of fast-bowling talent and stop Doug Bollinger from going to his honeymoon, so as to include him in the squad to West Indies. He didn't get a game, but was kept in the radar for the Indian tour. He was part of the Australia A squad to India and turned out to be the most successful bowler in the first unofficial Test for his team. The left-arm fast bowler has played in 45 First-class games for his 137 wickets, which had seven five-wicket hauls to punctuate. Though he is not likely to play any other part other than being a backup for the top three pace bowlers, he did his chances no harm with his performance in the one completed unofficial Test in India. The last Pura Cup season for Bollinger brought him 45 wickets at an average of around 15. He was rewarded with a contract with Cricket Australia and he will hope there is a Test berth lurking somewhere to cap off an excellent season. Like the hat-trick he got in one of the First-class matches in 2004-05, it seems everything happens in frenzied bursts of joy for Doug Bollinger.
