The Supreme Court today directed the Delhi Police to withdraw cops from VIP security and deploy them for the security of women instead, in the wake of the increasing crimes rate against women recorded in the national capital. The apex court has also asked States to reduce the number of policemen deployed for VVIP security. The court has given time till February 11 to the Union Home Ministry to file an affidavit on the deployment of policemen for VVIP security. On January 17, the top court had directed all state governments to provide within three weeks details of security given to political leaders and the expenditure involved. But only few states have responded as yet.
