The three-day Pravasi Bhartiya Divas kicked off in Kochi today with Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy inaugurating the NRIs meet. Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, will also arrive for a two-day visit to the state and would lay the foundation for the integrated expansion project of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Kochi Refineries at Ambalamugal. Oommen Chandy was thrilled about the state hosting the meet for the very first time in 11 years. Oommen Chandy further said that the total remittance from NRIs to Kerala is more than 60,000 crore rupees. Manmohan Singh will formally inaugurate the 11th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 08 and will take part in a meeting of the Global Advisory Council of Overseas Indians.
