Panches and Sarpanches living under constant fear in Sopore town in Kashmir presented their resignation by saying that they were scared and did not want to fall prey to the recent militant attack. Another Sarpanch from Sopore, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganiyaz apologised to the government and said that they do not want to work at the cost of their lives. The attacks on panchayat representatives again gathered steam as unidentified gunmen shot and injured a woman, who is also a member of the panchayat in Hardeshiva village of Sopore town on January 12 evening.
