DMK chief M Karunanidhi, today announced that his younger son Stalin would be his successor after his demise. The 88-year-old DMK chief said that he would continue to work for the upliftment and development of the state till his last breath. The DMK which is controlled by Karunanidhi and his family is the main opposition while the regional AIADMK headed by J Jayalalithaa rules the state. The declaration would intensify rivalry between 59-year old Stalin and his elder brother Alagiri, who earlier said that he would not accept anyone else other than his father as leader, for the top post in the party. The DMK has 18 seats in the parliament and is part of the central government.
